Open Letter to my Arizona Friends.

Building a wall at the border with Mexico is not going to stop  illegal immigration.  What it is going to do, is put you "in prison"  because as it is right now, you can not travel to Mexico like you used to, without a passapport.   For years you were allowed to go back and forth, not only enter Mexico with your vehicle, you could bring  your guns ...with you,  not anymore.  The more pressure you put to the  mexicans while we are here, the more  "laws"  the mexicans will have you to comply when you go there, that is bad for both economies, since there is less travel between countries.
Denying to young people of both countries the right to travel freely is not going to change it either, we used to have groups of students go back and forth.
Isolationism didn't work for Hitler, it will not work for Arizona.   Clearly the movement that was created by the SB1070 law only made people move away from the state, they took their small investments to another State.  Can you feel the absence of those small businesses?  sure you can.   Republicans are all about small business,  as long as it pay taxes.   I think that we forget what makes the economy move, that is, we have to have consumers also.   Right now we have consumers, they need laborers, these are small businesses that can not survive with people who do not want to work.   I understand that there should be some dignity to the salaries that these companies offer to the work force, but even with  more than the minimum wage , which I have been monitoring, can they cover the supply and demand of laborers.  I have monitored criminal activities also, it has not move, nor up or down, and the population that have been involved in criminal activity varies by very little.   It is obvious the fact that illegal immigration didn't bring more criminal activity to the state, neither slowed it down by simply moving the population away.
So what is the best way to create a win-win situation with this immigration reform?  Weather the border crossing was legal or not, let us see what good can it bring to the economy.  Fines, for illegal crossing, should be of a proportion that would make people think twice of doing it again.   After the fines have been satisfied, perhaps only access to work permits for six months at a time, with a price tag of course, until they have completed 3 to 5 years of proper taxes and not criminal history.

After the 3 or 5 years completed, then an opportunity to obtain legal residence, that will move us to 8 to 10 years from the date of registry,  and then everything else will apply to the citizenship as it is today.  Notice that when you FINE someone, it is not giving amnesty,  it is appropriately applying some human rights that we all have.   Basic human rights, that is the right to travel, if we happen to find ourselves in the other side of the border, then fines will be applied.    If the US do that, then the Mexican government will be forced to do the same thing for US citizens, unlike today when a Marine, a veteran and citizen of the US is being held in a Mexican prison simply for finding himself in the "other" side of the border, and is being accused of breaking several laws.

We need to work together in a common sense agreement that would benefit both countries.
